ABOUT CHALKFEST BUFFALO 2019
More spaces to chalk, bigger prizes and more artists for 2019!!
Thanks to the massive success of Chalkfest 2018 we will be making some huge improvements for Chalkfest 2019! Stay tuned for more details…
ChalkFest Buffalo! is a free annual event in the heart of Downtown Buffalo. For years it was hosted by the 500 Block of Main Street Association, and we are forever grateful to them for helping us make this dream a reality. In 2018 we almost were not able to continue the event. But the folks at Buffalo RiverWorks heard about our troubles and offered to step in and not only save the Chalkfest, but add to it in some amazing ways!
This September 14th and 15th the event will be both inside and outside of the GLF grain silos at Buffalo Riverworks as well as inside the silos next to the Michigan Street Bridge and outside the front of our hockey rinks!
Outside on the blacktop artists will be able to draw their creations under the urban zipline course and out front of the hockey rinks.
Inside the grain elevators & silos gives artists a smooth concrete canvas that is protected from the elements of weather. It also gives artists the ability to draw not just on the ground, but on the walls of the historic silos. This is not just a unique opportunity for artists, but a uniquely Buffalo opportunity as the historic grain elevators were invented here and have largely gone abandoned for the past few decades.
This September 14th and 15th we will also have a massive art show and exhibit area where artists can get booths for only $100 for both days of the show where they can sell and show off their creations and crafts. They will be weather protected as well under the Olympic hockey pavilions on the other side of the property. Non profits can apply for a booth for free.
To add to this there will be live music, face painting, rock climbing on the grain silos, DJs, street performers, an urban ropes course, a “candy shop” area with sweets and ice cream, kayaking, paddle boarding, a free “Touch-a-Truck” for the kids, the football game (on Sunday) on the massive 25′ screen, plus RiverWorks is a full scale microbrewery and restaurant. Also, Kids of all ages will have the chance to participate and leave their chalked mark in the community art zone, while drawing, learning and watching over the shoulders of local and world renowned artists!
ChalkFest Buffalo! not only provides a variety of activities for adults and children but also gives local artists the chance to win cash prizes and show off their gallery worthy artwork. . We hope to have some world-renowned 3-D chalk artists present and will update everyone as it unfolds.
